Monocacy Creek Fishing Outing 1-16-16

On Saturday January 16, 2016, RVTU had a fishing outing to Monocacy Creek in eastern Pennsylvannia not far from the NJ state line. The Monocacy is a spring fed limestone creek, which are far more common in PA than in NJ.  The underground springs that feed a limestone creek stay at a constant temperature year round, which keeps them warmer in the winter than other types (i.e. freestone) of nearby streams .  For this reason limestone creeks often do not freeze over in the winter, when other types of streams and lakes do.

The air and water temperatures were in the mid 40s all morning, and the streambred brown trout were active and biting the artifical flies.  Most of the experienced fly fishermen were catching fish, and some of the experienced fishermen were also passing tips down to the less experienced ones.

A fun time was had by all, and it was a good opportunity to catch fish and bond together as a group.  Thanks to Gerry Dumont for providing valuable information about this creek.
