Hakihokake Creek Stream Pebble Count Saturday 11-14-15 9am!
Rich Biemiller is in need of several volunteers. Rich is our Upper New Jersey Delaware River Project Coordinator with Trout Unlimited.
During Hurricane Irene a dam breached on Hakihokake Creek. This caused a sediment flush and resulted in a new stream channel being cut. This channel is causing erosion problems, and is harming the health of aquatic life in the stream. We would like to do a restoration project with the goal of restoring the original stream channel. The purpose of this pebble count is to collect quantifiable data that would justify moving the restoration project forward.
It would involve several teams of 2. One to measure pebbles and another to record. If we have 5 teams it will probably take about 3hrs max.
We will meeting at the Milford Library parking lot. The library's address is 40 Frenchtown Road Milford, NJ 08848. Waders are needed. Rich Biemiller will supply paper, pencils, rulers, clipboards, coffee and doughnuts. The protocol is pretty simple and we can go over it at the site.
